How often should children get dental x-rays?

Dental radiographs should only be taken if your dentist suspects the presence of a lesion.

It is a well know fact that the cancerous effect of radiation is cumulative over the lifetime of an individual. We do our best to decrease radiation exposure to our patients and do not routinely expose children to dental radiographs. We also employ a number of other alternatives procedures (Dental Laser, Translumination, etc) in place of typical high radiation dental radiographs. In our office, dental radiographs are only taken after Dr. Bialik (aka Dr. Scott) has already performed an oral exam and has discussed the need for them with the parent or guardian.
