My Philosophy

Did you know that a dentist is only supposed to take radiographs if he/she suspects a lesion?   We use a laser to check for decay thus reducing your child’s exposure to harmful radiation.

Pediatric Dentist Office Philosophy

Our patients are so comfortable that they don’t want to leave and can’t wait to come back! When was the last time you saw your child give their doctor or dentist a hug?

Children are precious and all children are different.  In our office, every child is treated as if they were our own.  Our goals are not only to perform dentistry, but also to prevent children from becoming afraid of the dentist.  Dentistry is different today than it was even 10 years ago. In this day and age, there is no need to be afraid of dentistry.  For those children that are already apprehensive, we strive to get them over their fears so that when they grow up they will seek proper dental care.

We wouldn’t like our children traumatized, drugged or tied down, and we expect that most parents feel the same way.

In our office, we take a strong psychological approach in treating our patients and steer away from past traditionally modalities such as pharmacological and physical restraint. Many parents of new patient’s ask how this is possible, and the answer is quite simple.

Treatment is always performed with parents present

Children are more at ease when they can see mom or dad.  Children know that mom or dad wouldn’t let any one harm them.  Thus by having the child’s parents present they are naturally more at ease.  Also, very little is more comforting to a child than holding a parents hand.

Short, quick, dental visits

The younger the child, the shorter their attention span.  If a two year old were to sit still for fifteen minutes, the equivalent for an adult would be sitting for close to three hours.   Thus when we see very young children, we book short treatment visits.  By doing this, typically we can complete all the necessary treatment within the child’s attention span.  This makes for more pleasant visits for both the children and parents.

Distraction technique

Basically this technique works by distracting the patient’s attention away from the treatment being performed.  Our office was specifically designed and decorated to put even the most anxious patient at ease.   Thus when receiving treatment, a child can look in any direction and find a pleasant object that will attract their attention.  Whether it be a stuffed animal, music videos, movies, music, our Sony Play Station, or talking to the dentist, our patients are so comfortable that they do not wish to leave and can’t wait to come back.

Tell – Show – Do

This technique is possibly the most important technique that can be used when treating young patients.  The dentist explains to the patient what is to be done using simple terminology and repetition and then shows the child what is to done by demonstrating with instruments on a model or the child’s finger.  Then the procedure is performed as described.

Positive Reinforcement

Positive cooperative behavior is reinforced through rewards.  This technique rewards the patient who displays any behavior, which is desirable.  Rewards include compliments, praise, a pat on the back, a hug, or a prize. Our largest referral source is from satisfied patients and their parents.   Our patients are usually so excited about coming to our office that they give our staff a big hug when they get here.

Holistic Approach to Pediatric Dentistry

You might say that Dr. Bialik has been utilizing a Holistic approach towards Pediatric Dentistry long before there even was a name for it. Our office is Mercury Free, Nitrous Oxide Free (N2O, Laughing Gas) and all of our treatment modalities and recommendations are geared toward promoting long healthy lives. Of course there is a reason, sound scientific evidence, and strong psychological basis for all that we advice. This is evident and can be seen in the design of our office, how the patients are treated, and our recommendations for home health care.
